Brook Simmons | The Petroleum Alliance of Oklahoma

Brook A. Simmons is president of The Petroleum Alliance of Oklahoma. The Petroleum Alliance is the only trade association in Oklahoma that represents every segment of the oil and natural gas industry, representing more than 1,300 member companies engaged in the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors of the state’s defining industry.

A native Oklahoman from Ardmore, Simmons served as the federal lobbyist for the Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association (OIPA) from 2008 to 2015. He served on the executive committee of the board of directors for the Oklahoma Oil & Gas Association (OKOGA) from 2015 to 2019 and helped merge the organizations into the Petroleum Alliance of Oklahoma. From 2015 until its acquisition by Encana (now Ovintiv) in 2019, Simmons managed federal, state and local government affairs for Newfield Exploration, and worked in Oklahoma with frequency. Prior to leading The Petroleum Alliance, Simmons represented private clients on federal issues in Washington, D.C.

Simmons serves on the board of directors for the Domestic Energy Producers Alliance (DEPA) and previously served on the boards of directors for the Western Energy Alliance (WEA), North Dakota Petroleum Council (NDPC), Royalty Owners & Producers Educational Coalition (ROPE), and the Utah Petroleum Association (UPA). He also served on Utah Governor Gary Herbert’s Energy Advisory Council.

OERB: Making a Difference – 1:52:25
Mindy Stitt | Oklahoma Energy Resources Board

Mindy Stitt is Executive Director of the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board (OERB). Prior to her current position, she was Assistant Director, overseeing OERB’s statewide student education programs. Mindy became one of the first employees of the OERB when she joined the organization in 1994. She was previously employed by Brown and Borelli, Inc., an independent oil and natural gas company. Mindy attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University, majoring in elementary education. Her efforts in the area of energy education awarded her the Governor’s Commendation for Public Service in 1998. In 2006, Mindy was honored by The Journal Record as one of the top 50 women making a difference in the State of Oklahoma. She is a member of the Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum Board of Directors and is active in the OKC Area Salvation Army.

Past, Present, Future – Always Taking Care of Business – 3:50:55
Keynote Speaker: Dana Murphy | Oklahoma Corporation Commission

Elected in 2008, 2010 and 2016, Oklahoma Corporation Commissioner Dana Murphy has 22-plus years of experience in the petroleum industry as a geologist. Prior to her election, she owned and operated a private law firm focused on oil and gas title, regulatory practice and transactional work, and previously served as an administrative law judge for the Commission. She is the Oklahoma member of the Regional State Committee of the Southwest Power Pool, serves on the Oklahoma Water Resources Research Institute advisory board, is a member of the Financial Research Institute advisory board, and serves on the Salvation Army’s Central Oklahoma Area Command advisory board. In 2007, she was recognized by Energy Advocates as an outstanding woman in energy. Murphy holds a bachelor’s degree in geology from Oklahoma State University and a law degree cum laude from Oklahoma City University.

Bob Kelly & Heath Robinson | Ascent Resources

Bob Kelly became Ascent’s Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary in October 2015. Previously, Mr. Kelly served as General Counsel for AELP from April 2013 to September 2015 and as Senior Vice President for Millbrae Energy LLC from October 2012 to April 2013. Mr. Kelly previously spent 11 years at Chaparral Energy, LLC from June 2001 to October 2012, where he served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel. Prior to that, Mr. Kelly worked at Ricks Exploration Inc. as Director—A&D, EOG Resources, Inc. as Division Land Manager, TXO Production Corp. as District Land Manager and in private practice for a short time. Mr. Kelly earned a BBA in Petroleum Land Management from the University of Oklahoma and a JD from Oklahoma City University’s School of Law. He is admitted to practice law in Oklahoma and Ohio.

 

Heath Robinson is the Director of Title and A&D for Ascent Resources, LLC. Heath has been with Ascent since 2014 and has over ten years of Appalachia industry experience. His current position involves supervision of Ascent’s title team which orders, reviews and approves title for all Ascent wells. Heath is also responsible for the management of the A&D team at Ascent overseeing both acquisition and divestiture opportunities for various asset packages. During his time at Ascent, Heath has worked to finalize more than a dozen transactions involving over 300 wells and approximately 300,000 net acres (minerals and leasehold) valued in excess of four billion dollars. His combined team consist of a diversely experienced team of 7 individuals whose duties expand into multiple facets of Ascent’s daily business. Prior to joining Ascent, Heath worked at Chesapeake Energy Corporation in various capacities including Title Landman, Title Attorney, Title Specialist, Title Supervisor and Landman III with most of his focus being Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Heath is a graduate of Oklahoma State University and received his law degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Law. He is licensed to practice law in Ohio, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania. Heath resides in Okarche, OK with his wife Rachel. In his spare time, Heath enjoys traveling and managing his recently opened craft brewery, Expedinture Brewery.

Early Oklahoma Oil & the Oklahoma City Field – 6:32:56
Dr. Paul Lambert | Oklahoma Historical Society

Dr. Paul F. Lambert of Oklahoma City was born in Tulsa and grew up in Tishomingo. He earned undergraduate degrees at Murray State College at Tishomingo and at East Central University at Ada. His M.A. and Ph. D. degrees in history were earned at Oklahoma State University. The author or co-author of sixteen books, he held various positions on the staff of the Oklahoma Heritage Association for 32 years before joining the staff of the Oklahoma Historical Society in 2002. He retired from the OHS in 2016.

His books relating to the petroleum industry in Oklahoma include Early Oklahoma Oil for Texas A&M University Press, Voices from the Oil Fields for the University of Oklahoma Press, and Drill Bits and Plowshares: A History of Farmers Royalty Company for Cottonwood Press. He also has co-authored books on the early oil industry in Arkansas, Louisiana, and California. He presently is working on a book on the history of Tishomingo, Oklahoma to be published by the Chickasaw Press in 2022.
