Below are the three jobs, including job description. 

1.  Landman Staff – Commercial (Permian)

            Job Responsibilities

·         Independently responsible for conducting highly complex land work by researching and evaluating land data to determine availability of land and/or leases for acquisition, development and/or divestiture.

·         Spends a significant amount of time building and nurturing relationships, primarily in face-to-face communications, to seek out any potential land opportunities.

·         Organizes and supervises efforts of outside lease brokers, contract Landman and title attorneys.

·         Oversees the title examination process and the resolution of title defects.

·         Facilitates and oversees record checks and title examination performed by less experience Land department employees by managing/handling the due diligence associated with development programs, divestitures and acquisitions.

·         Manages all land related functions in an assigned area including the review and approval of title for proposed drilling locations.

·         Collaborates with internal WPX groups (Leased Records, Division Order, Drilling/Completions, Marketing, Accounting/Finance, Regulatory along with Planning) and outside third-party operators and partners.

·         Prepares, negotiates and reviews a wide variety of agreements including joint operating agreements, farm-out agreements, pooling and letter agreements, term assignments, and acreage trades/swaps with third parties.

·         Serves as a subject matter expert and mentor to others in the Land department.

·         Coordinates with State Regulatory agencies all exploration, development, and production issues to facilitate company drilling programs and production goals.

·         Performs special projects and serves as a back up to the Area Land Manager position as needed.

·         Follows all external and internal federal, state and local policies and procedures related to Land management function.

Certified Professional Landman is preferred

Travel Requirements:  Up to 40% of the time to field locations (as needed)

          

2.  Landman Sr – Asset Development (Permian)

Job Responsibilities

·         With minimal guidance, the Senior Landman handles land assignments of a broad scope and moderate difficulty.

·         Spends a significant amount of time building and nurturing relationships, primarily in face-to-face communications, to seek out any potential land opportunities.

·         Establishes and maintains relationships with industry peers and counterparts as well as co-owners.

·         Oversees the title examination process and manages risk through the resolution of title defects.

·         Manages all land related functions in an assigned area including the review and approval of title for proposed drilling locations.

·         Collaborates with internal WPX groups (Leased Records, Division Order, Drilling/Completions, Marketing, Accounting/Finance, Regulatory along with Planning) and outside third-party operators and partners.

·         Prepares, negotiates and reviews a variety of joint operating, farm-out, pooling, lease and letter agreements, term assignments, and acreage trades/swaps with third parties.

·         Draws up various types of letter and lease agreements along with the terms along with all other types of oil and gas land related agreements

·         Coordinates with State Regulatory agencies all exploration, development, and production issues to facilitate company drilling programs and production goals.

·         Follows all external and internal federal, state and local policies and procedures related to Land management function.

3.  Land Data Mgmt Specialist II

            Job Description

With moderate guidance, is able to analyze and review title documents, including oil and gas leases, real property deeds, easements, rights-of-way, and other instruments and determine where they are situated and whether or not they impact our acreage position.  Is able to establish leasehold boundaries against changing surveys, water lines, vegetation, and historical maps, and compare the boundaries against historical production data to determine whether a parcel of real property is validly leased by a producing oil or gas well (determine HBP status).

  • ·         Understands the company and its key business drivers; uses this knowledge to guide own work.
  • ·         Maintains the integrity of the Land mapping geospatial relational database system by doing the following:
  • identifies and manually maps quarter call and meets and bounds legal descriptions from land agreement documents and exhibit survey plat maps
  • insures that any new land agreement set up in the lease records system is either auto-mapped or manually mapped and linked to the land mapping system
  • ·         Work with Regulatory/Permitting department and Survey Contractors to obtain surveyor generated shapefile, CAD .dxf file, Google Earth .kml or .kmz file, or any other electronic file representation of survey work products associated with exhibit plats in all varieties of land agreements
  • ·         use agreement exhibit plats with survey stationing, bearing and distance notation, and section corner ties to verify proper centerline location from surveyor generated shapefile, CAD .dxf file, or route manually mapped using Parcel edit tools, COGO tools in ArcMap, or through the process of georeferencing and heads-up digitizing then buffer the centerline and link the resulting outline to the Land mapping system
  • ·         QC surface agreements to be sure the auto-mapper didn't create a shape based on quarter call descriptions that should in fact be a buffered centerline
  • ·         Responds to notifications from others outside the Land Data Management team regarding issues with the mapped boundaries of land agreements and troubleshoots errors within the Land mapping system.
  • ·         Is responsive to internal/external customer needs providing timely, accurate and high-quality interactions
  • ·         Makes a variety of decisions based on experience and common practices with land geospatial data management
  • ·         Makes decisions related to own work; receives guidance from supervisor to determine the appropriate alternatives
  • ·         Identifies gaps or errors in datasets and corrects the data.  Identifies and communicates issues affecting data accuracy or ability to produce deliverables.
  • ·         Troubleshoots and solves moderately complex or infrequently occurring problems by using existing precedents or procedures
  • ·         Works alongside other departments technical staff to insure they have the most up-to-date and complete geospatial data from the Land mapping system
  • ·         Ability to work with geospatial relational database systems. Runs system queries daily to check for additions to the mapping system from the lease records system and is responsible for keeping the mapping system up-to-date and as accurate as possible

Job Requirements

·         Bachelor’s degree or minimum 3 to 5 yrs. industry & GIS experience - 3 to 5 years industry and GIS experience preferred

·         Works with team lead to handle system anomalies with limited supervision

·         Able to assist and train less experienced staff on aspects of how to maintain the Land mapping system using more advanced editing tools and the system application interface

·         Understands how to set and configure the Land mapping system to insure dynamic updates from the Leas records system

·         Has developed skills to perform a variety of day-to-day activities; knowledge and experience with relational databases.

·         Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with the business and vendors and ability to troubleshoot and solve problems

·         Able to communicate effectively with survey contractors in order to obtain electronic engineering design files to support survey plat exhibits

·         Solid background in GIS mapping, analysis, and data management

·         Knowledge of US land administration terminology and agreements

·         Strong analytical skills and ability to proactively think ahead of issues and changes

·         Effective team player who takes an active role in team responsibilities

·         Strong communication (verbal and written) skills

·         Customer service oriented with excellent people skills
